Something always has to happen that delays me from writing a new blog post. I have wanted to put up this OOTD since Valentine’s Day. Can you believe I wrote the whole thing out included pictures and all and my darn web host froze on me! You best to believe I had a fit. Writing for me take thought and time, I don’t just throw things up here and lately time is of essence. Between work, the baby, exercising and my home life my blogging has become secondary. I managed to find some time this morning so here we go… I wore this look on my Valentine’s date with my best friend Jessica. We choose to go to LongHorn Steak house, both the service and the food were pleasant. However, what was to die for and I recommend to you all are the Golden Nugget Fried Cheesecake - Tasty nuggets of creamy cheesecake lightly breaded and crisp fried, served over vanilla bean ice cream with strawberry sauce. All of that goodness for only $5.79. I will start with my hair, I found on Twitter – my hub for all things current and up to date a natural/ curly hair guru Curly Nikki. You can read all about her and My Journey Back to Natural Hair , she has a method called “the chunky twist and curl” that I tried out and loved! It left my hair feeling healthy and lustrous It is a more polished look compared to my wild wash and go. I have now adapted it to be part of my hair regime. As I work my way down we come to my Forever 21 cardi and tank. I really like this cardi because it is cinched at the back emphasizing your waist line, it also has puff sleeves, drapping in the front and bronzed detailing adorning the shoulders giving a military inspired piece. If that tank could talk, oh the stories it would have to tell LOL! I own that olive green top, I want to say since 2006; It has survived two break ups and a house fire. Needless to say It’s a sentimental piece of clothing. I can’t let it go though, that top is very essential part of my wardrobe, especially my military looks. I have other olive green tops but they do not seem to come up to par. I went with black and gold/ bronzed toned jewelry to go with my look. All of my accessories seen itn the pictures are courtesy of Chica-Fashion.com Cargo pants are a fashion staple this spring and I hadn’t owned a pair but I came across these “Almost Famous” at Marshalls in the clearance section for only 7 bucks! Yes only seven dollars, fab find I know! I bought them without trying them on because that brand is my sister's fave. They fit great and are very figure flattering. I recently purchased my Colin Stuart round toe black booties from Victoria’s secret on sale for 54.99. I didn’t own a pair like those and had wanted a pair for quite some time. After seeing, the price and that they were in my sized I jumped at the opportunity. They are comfortable and are also military inspired, which I am very much into. @CurlyNikki Chunky Twist N Curl Method My journey back to my natural (non-chemically processed) hair began in May 2006 after I was forced to give up perms for 3 months. Up until then, I would have a chemical relaxer done every 6-8 weeks either, by my mother, aunt or beautician since I was 5 years old. Yes, I agree, five is indeed extremely young for any child to have their hair chemically processed. Unfortunately, for me I had curious George for an aunt who decided, she wanted to see what would happen to my hair if she used her left over relaxer on me. My natural virgin curls were murdered. I still loathe Aunt Curios George from time to time; can you sense it? LOL To my lament, my mother had no idea that she could of just stopped the pain staking and costly cycle that was about to begin; by simply letting the perm grow out. To add insult to injury, because I am Dominican it is common for girls to have their hair perm-ed. In addition, it isn’t rare for Dominican beauticians to categorize hair as either “good” or “bad”, My hair now fell under “bad”. With that being said, I will take a moment to educate all of you a bit. There is no such thing as “good” or “bad” hair. Here we go… these are a few of the appropriate and inoffensive descriptions for hair types and/ or textures Curly, Wavy, Kinky, Brittle, Coarse, Flat, Fine, Dry, Thin, Thick, Frizzy and Straight Now that we have that out of the way, I digress, since everyone around my mother and I were accustomed to perms my mother felt she was doing the right thing by continuing and maintaining the chemical process. I admit although always had a fresh blow out; there were numerous occasions where I badly yearned to have easy carefree curly hair like my cousins. My poor mother isn’t the only one to blame for my delay in quitting perms. After becoming a young adult, I never tried to educate myself on how you can get your hair back to its natural state. I pretty much assumed as well, that this was what I would have to do with my hair for the rest of my life. I highly doubt that if it wasn’t for the incident that gave me no other choice but to give relaxers a break I would have probably continued to perm my hair for a few more years. After going cold turkey and quitting perms in ‘06, I discovered that my new growth was pliable, soft and manageable CURLS ! You can’t even begin to imagine my excitement. Me? With curly hair? After crying, begging and even wishing on the stars up above , Me! I had curly hair! I would run the tips of my fingers through my hair all day just to feel and “check” that I really did have curls growing. In delight, that I may soon have curly hair I would even ask my friends and mother to check my new growth too. After almost a year of slow grow out process I decided to chop it all off to speed things up. I still hadn’t discovered or created a natural hair process. I would simply blow my hair dry with the comb attachment and then flat iron. As my hair began to grow longer, I would then do a wash and set only blowing the roots. It took what seemed like forever for all of the processed hair to completely grow out but once it did, I was in heaven. I no longer had two different textures of hair to work with and wash & go became my staple for occasions in which I wasn’t able to get to the salon. A few weeks ago while on twitter – my hub for informative sources; I discovered @CurlyNikki a natural hair guru and I could not be happier. After reading her blog http://www.curlynikki.com/ and viewing her pictures I now have learned new ways to manage and maintain my curly locks. I recently tried her Chunky Twist-n-Curl method and loved the results (see photo at the start of post). I had tried a similar twist method when my hair was shorter but it was a longer process.
What I am looking forward to most is long, big beautiful healthy hair and teaching my daughter to love and embrace hers. Tuesday is once again upon us and you know what that means… Tuesday Shoes Day! I received in the mail today, my Victoria’s Secret Shoe Love Catalog, which inspired today’s post. What do I find hot for spring/summer ’11? Caged and strappy sandals that’s what! I am in love… Colin Stuart® Canvas T-strap Buckle SandalColin Stuart® Caged SandalNine West Botique 9 HeleneGUESS Women's Ogut Open-Toe BootieI have never used any product by NIVEA, surprising I know last week in need of “lotion” I asked my coworker for some and was given NIVEA Crème, I love it! It is so rich and creamy with such intense moisture that left my hands feels very soft, smooth and silky. I love the cute little tin that it comes; it’s perfect for your purse or even a clutch! With a pleasant scent and a non-greasy formula, I would say this moisturizer is tested and approved! I have wanted to write this review for quite some time now but I either, always forget or push it aside to do a different post instead. A few months ago, while at my local Dollar General I came across this particular product – Flexitol Heel Balm. It is a little miracle worker, I really did see results in three days just as they said. We all have had our moments in which we could not get to the nail salon when we should or would like. Flexitol Heel Balm is perfect for in between pedicure upkeep. Using this is going to help your feet stay or be restored back to smooth and healthy looking. Granted my feet do not look like the ones in the picture above. However they do tend to begin crack easily and lack moisture, this balm did the trick. I did not use it both morning and night and still saw visible results and an improvement in my feet. To speed results I also would apply the balm and then wore socks.
Flexitol Heel Balm is a non-greasy formula enriched with pro vitamin B5, vitamin E & L-arginine as well as enhanced exfoliating properties It’s wonderful because it is an affordable product that is easily accessible at any local drug store as well as via web. Mine cost me three dollars but that can range depending on where purchased. For a free sample click here. As with most Tuesday’s I will dedicate my post to “Tuesday ShoesDay” a trend on twitter that enjoy participating in. I have many shoes I would say somewhere around 58 last I checked and that isn’t including summer sandals, flip flops and sneakers. Surprisingly enough, I do not own pair of the latest fad’s pick – a round toe pump; either with or without a platform. While browsing for a pair of the above mentioned shoe, I came across a few pairs that I find to make the cut. Here are my picks for the basic up‐to‐the‐minute black pump… Style&co.
