Guest Post by Samantha Abrams Prom season is almost over, but there’s still time to find a great dress if you know what you’re looking for. Follow these rules before you buy to make sure you get the perfect dress. We’ll start with general tips first, and move on to specific body types. 1. Think about what you’ll do with the dress after prom While dresses for prom should be formal and elegant, a bad prom dress will look noticeably “prommy”. If you can imagine wearing the dress at an adult, black-tie event, it’s worth considering. This doesn’t mean that your prom dress has to be understated or dull—but it should match your overall style. If you can’t see yourself wearing it on any other formal occasion, make sure you’ll want to wear it on prom night. Even if you decide on a prom dress that you can only rock on prom night, think about how you might modify it to suit other occasions—many prom dresses only need a few embellishments trimmed away and a higher hem to become beautiful cocktail dresses. 2. Make sure it suits the way you plan to use it Try on the dress wearing the underwear you plan to wear to the prom, so you don’t end up with unexpected lines or exposed straps on the big night. Also, consider freedom of movement: if you love to dance, you might not want a full-length dress with stilettos, and consider lighter fabrics that will keep you cool. If you plan to spend extended time outdoors, be ready for heat, cold, and rain. No matter how elegant and lovely your dress may be in the dressing room, it won’t be so nice if you’re sweating through it or tripping over it on the big night. 3. Match the dress to your skin tone Cool: If you have light-colored eyes and your skin has blue or pink undertones, look for icy, vibrant colors; something in red, navy, blue-green, black, magenta, or dark purple. Choose silver accessories rather than gold. Warm: If you have green or dark eyes, and your skin has olive or yellow undertones, consider a prom dress in subdued, autumn colors—orange, brown, peachy-pink, olive, and earth tones. Gold jewelry is a better choice than silver. 4. Make sure it flatters your body shape Pear-shaped: For you especially, a great prom dress is about flaunting what you like about your body, not hiding what you don’t. Go for a dress with a fitted top and an A-line or full-length skirt. If you’re comfortable with your caboose, a form-fitting skirt is a great option; but even if you’re not in love with it, don’t try to cover it up. Find a dress that lets it work for you. Apple-shaped: Your dress should show off your lovely arms, legs, and bust, and an empire waist (or any dress with a waist closer to the bust line) will deemphasize any problem areas. If you like your legs, show them off with a shorter dress. Petite: A Floor-length dress will swallow you up, so pick a shorter dress with an asymmetrical hem line to make you look taller. Go for a more delicate, feminine look to compliment your smaller frame. Slim: If you’re slender, choose dresses that draw attention to your waist line and bust line to make the most of your curves. A belted or wrap dress will also accentuate your slender waist, and consider choices that draw attention to your legs. Busty: If you want to flaunt your bust, a deep neck line is good, but keep it understated—you don’t need to go crazy to be noticed. Make sure you have good coverage and support everywhere else. Check out dresses that draw the eye to the hem to balance out your look. Samantha Abrams is a freelance writer and fashion and celebrity blogger over at the Style Cynics fashion blog.
If you follow me on either Facebook or Twitter then you probably read about me reorganizing my shoes in my closet a few weeks back. Although more spacious than most I do not have a very large closet. I thought that by keeping my shoes in their boxes I was making the most of my limited space but after receiving new shoes I realized not one more box could fit.
I browsed shoe closets/ shoe organization on Pinterest and the one thing I noticed was that almost none had the shoes in boxes but in racks or shelves. I decided I too would go this route as it seemed the most efficient. Based on my closet space I knew that I could place a rack on both the right lefts sides of the closet as well as one across the bottom. I googled to find shoe racks that fit my requirements of cost and size. After measuring my space to make sure they would fit I purchased two 30 Pair Stacking Metal & Plastic Shoe Racks and one Stacking Shoe Rack (español) Si me sigues en Facebook o Twitter, probablemente un par de semanas atras leiste sobre la reorganización de los zapatos en mi closet.
While waiting for my shoe racks to arrive I went to town on the closet and removed every shoe from its box. This was a long messy process my living room was filled with boxes and tissue paper. I then had to break down each box to be able to throw them all out.

Putting together the shoe racks after they arrived was pretty simple. All of my shoes fit with the exceptions of a few boots, which I put in my husband's closet. I still have space for a few more pairs of shoes, not many but this will definitely due for now. I can finally see all of my shoes, I even tried to organize them by color. Hope this helps to get you organized as well.

With this in mind, Taylor wanted her look to be timeless yet still a little edgy and strong.
· COVERGIRL NatureLuxe Silk Foundation was lightly applied using a damp sponge which ensures a light dewy application. I used a small concealer brush to sweep on a bit of COVERGIRL Fresh Complexion Under Eye Concealer to lighten up the under eye area, followed withCOVERGIRL + Olay Simply Ageless Sculpting Blush lightly brushed along Taylor's cheek bones to give just a touch of color and definition. · With an eyeshadow brush, I applied the cranberry color from COVERGIRL Eye Enhancers 4-Kit Shadow in Blossoms all over the lid from lash line to just above the crease and out past the outer corner of the eye and below her lower lash line as well. I then lined her eyes withCOVERGIRL Liquiline Blast Eyeliner in Black Fire along the upper lash line and then smudged it a bit with a cotton bud. I did this just a touch on the lower lash line as well. I finished her eyes with 2-3 coats of COVERGIRL LashBlast Volume Mascara on both the upper and lower lashes. · Because we went with a stronger eye look, Taylor chose to go with her lips fairly understated and neutral, so I added only a bit of sheer color and shine with COVERGIRL NatureLuxe Gloss Balm in Peony over her lips with a lip brush. · For more tips, Like www.facebook.com/COVERGIRL, Follow www.twitter.com/COVERGIRL, and Subscribe to www. · Tips de Belleza: Like www.facebook.com/COVERGIRL, Follow www.twitter.com/COVERGIRL, Subscribewww.YouTube.com/COVERGIRL. I love a pair of leopard flats and when it came time to replace my Nine west pony hair leopard flats I was so heart broken. I wore them for about 5 years. The poor things were so beat up that I had no choice but to let them go. In searching for a new pair I came across the Rocket Dog Women's Morrison Flat and felt it would fit the bill. I snagged these along with another pair of flats for $43 bucks after shipping and a coupon. SaveSplurgeA Guest Post by Maya of Dress Diva A quinceanera is often one of the highlights in a Hispanic girl's life as it signifies her transition from childhood to being a grown up woman. It's a deeply cultural practice that brings together the girls' friends and relatives on her 15th birthday to celebrate her transition to adult hood. A major part of this celebration and culture is the dress that the girl wears. It makes her look elegant and grown up. A good dress maintains the balance between elegance and maintaining decency since a quinceanera is mostly a family event.
A big challenge that Dress Diva choosing quinceanera dresses presents therefore is picking a dress that looks good, is decent and appeals to the personality of the girl. This is in addition to considerations that need to be made in regard to the girl's body shape, type size and also her budget. The perfect dress will make the girl look like a princess at a fair cost while still retaining comfort. Apart from the dress, choosing the right accessories is critical as they can decide the success or failure of the outfit. Over the years, the dress has evolved into many variations but one that has stood the test of time is the classic big ball gown design as it's suited for a wide range of body types perfectly. Other types include the princess cut that starts out narrow at the shoulders and flares out as it goes down. Below are some considerations and guidelines you can follow to enable you choose the perfect quinceanera dress for you. Body type- While the ball gown design may work with different body types other variations will call for specific body types in order to pull off successfully. A safe choice here therefore is the ball gown in a vivid color, silhouette and embellished with jewels to create a breath taking look. A- Line silhouette dresses are best for complementing all kinds of figures especially when it has a sweetheart neckline. A corset will tend to create an emphasis on the female form when chosen correctly and also bring out the best. Empire gowns with sweetheart or halter necklines can suit different figures. Color - Although green, ivory, pastels and pink have considerable appeal, black has stood out over time due to its elegance and stylish look. Sapphire, turquoise and blue gowns can also have this effect Accessories - A major part of the outfit, the accessories should coordinate with everything else for a perfect look. Jewelry like earrings, necklaces and tiaras can be used to complement the dress and complete it. Opt for the subdued shades if the dress is dazzling color wise. Color contrasting the clutch and shoes can create nice touch if don well Hair - A good hairdo ensures the elegance of the dress flows from the bottom to the top completing the dress elegantly. Choose a hairstyle that frames the face well. Finally getting an expensive dress isn't necessarily the best and you should always look around for what appeals and suits your preferences best. The idea is to make sure the dress you have chosen makes you stand out in the crowd. Latina spokesperson for COVERGIRL, Sofia Vergara, star of the award-winning Modern Family show, attended the Met Gala (#MetBall) last week in honor of the annual opening of the Metropolitan Museum’s fashion exhibit at the Costume Institute with Vogue Magazine. COVERGIRL unveiled Sofia’s dress and beauty look via Twitter with an exclusive behind the scenes first look, before Sofia even left her hotel room for the event. Sofia wore a Marchesa dress, jewelry by Harry Winston, and makeup by COVERGIRL, applied by celebrity makeup artist Kayleen McAdams (sister of actress Rachel McAdams). Her popular grape/pink bright lip was inspired by the Marchesa collection as a whole. Makeup by Artist Kayleen McAdams Sofia’s bright lip was inspired by the Marchesa collection (she wore a Marchesa dress) and we chose a grapey-pink hue since it’s one of Sofia’s favorite shades. I first applied COVERGIRL NatueLuxe Silk Foundation in Nutmeg all over her face using a blender sponge. I then used COVERGIRL TRUconceal Concealer in #4 just where we needed under the eyes and around the nose to keep the makeup sheer. To set the look, I used a big fluffy brush to apply COVERGIRL Clean Pressed Powder in Soft Honey and then used COVERGIRL Cheekers Blush in Plum Plush to complement her lips. I wanted to create an eye on Sofia that’s lighter than usual. I applied COVERGIRL Queen Collection Vivid Impact Eyeliner in Truffle along the bottom lashes from the outer corners to the very inner corners and then applied a lighter line along the lash line at the top to create dimension. I applied COVERGIRL Eye Enhancers 1-Kit Shadows in Swiss Chocolate on top of the liner on the lid to create a softer effect and then used COVERGIRL Eye Enhancers 1-Kit Shadows in Mink along the brow bone. I used two coats ofCOVERGIRL LashBlast 24HR Mascara in Very Black on the top and bottom lashes to finish the eyes. I lined the lips first with COVERGIRL LipPerfection Lipliner in Beloved and then filled them in withCOVERGIRL Queen Collection Lip Color in Regal Raspberry using a lip brush to create dimension and contour the lips. We knew we wanted to use a grapey-pink lip color to make Sofia’s lips stand out, but we had to play around with three different shades of purple before choosing the one she’s seen wearing. Since her look is all about the lips, I wanted to make sure the color stayed vibrant all night long so I gave her the COVERGIRL lip liner and lipstick to keep in her purse before she hit the red carpet. |
