I loved wearing corduroy pants growing up; just the other day I was thinking to myself, I wonder if skinny cords exist. Turns out they do! Better yet they are trending – not that you ever “have” to wear what’s trending. I am an advocate for wearing what looks and feels good to you whether it is the latest fad or not.
Back to cords, I find them apart from being stylish and fashionable, comfortable and long lasting. They are great for falls cool days and transition well into winter. They are a wonderful alternative to a jean and the texture just adds an extra layer of playfulness.
You can pair them up with just about anything and in this post, I will show you how to create a relaxed weekend look that my plus size Chica’s can wear too.
No Frumpy Cords Here
I paired the navy corduroy pants with a Floral-Print Blouson Top also from Old Navy. I went with this top because it flows away from the midsection helping my bigger Chicas have smoother silhouette.
I played off the colors from the top, using them as accents in my accessories. If you remember my Fall’s Must have Footwear post I mentioned that booties were one of the shoes you need this fall, which is why I went with a grey suede bootie. You could have used any of the 10 shoes from that post and they would have worked as well. A blazer is a great anchoring piece and it is a great substitute to a coat or jacket on days that aren’t as cold. The blazer is also going to create some structure and emphasize a waistline. The scarf, like with the blazer has a dual purpose, it protects against the weather and is a layering piece. You don't have to go all matchy, matchy like I did, that's something I like to do. You can be more daring and mix prints, patterns and colors to express who you are. As with all of my post please feel free to comment and if you try the look post pictures. Wandaly, Natalia and Me(Alicia) You may or may not remember but about a month ago or so I received a styling request from my friend, Wandaly. She wanted an outfit to look “hot’ as she said to wear on her 24th birthday. You can see her Single, Sexy and Free look by clicking. I had chosen for her a pair of draped shorts and a blush corset top with a lace over lay. She didn’t end up going with the shorts but did find a skirt that gave the same feel. All she was missing was a top and a belt, this is where I came in. We went to Garden State Plaza(mall) and set out to find the perfect missing pieces. We went to stores I frequent like H&M, Baker’s, and Arden B. It was at Arden B where she found two black suede belts; she wanted a suede belt to go with her suede shoes, not that that’s something you have to do. One was a bit simple and toned down, didn’t make much of a statement and the other was the complete opposite. You all know I pushed her to pick that one. Why not? Your birthday is one of the very few days out of the year you get to go all out and be bold. I was at my local Family Dollar the other day stocking up on pacifiers for my baby; I like to buy them there because they come in all colors to match her outfits and they are only $1.50 for a two pack. But I digress while there I came across an As Seen On TV product, EZ Comb. I was a bit hesitant to spend $10 on two hair combs but I had really wanted to try it.
Turns out to be the greatest 10 bucks I have spent on a hair accessory, I love that clip and if you know me, you know that I have lots or thick curly hair. Whether my hair is natural or blown out the clip is able to hold all of my hair in place, I use it for just about any hair do. It is my new go to product because of its ease and versatility. I paid 10 dollars but I believe they are cheaper now or it may depend on where you go to purchase it. A few weeks ago my cousin Rebeca, asked me to put a few looks together for her. She wanted a “nerdy look” as she called it. I figured she meant a preppy look, so I worked off that. I could have went with all stipe button up shirts and cable knit sweaters but I wanted something younger looking and more stylish for her. I focused more on prints and colors to keep it fun and playful yet still giving her the sophisticated look she was after. I created outfits she can use for work, casual weekends and out around town. The pieces I choose are very versatile allowing her to mix and match to create different looks without having to go out and buy more. Preppy ChicaMy cousin doesn’t wear heels, in case you were all wonder why all of the looks have flats. I sneaked in a kitten heel, I wonder what she is going to think about that. I took lots of time and put in lots of love into these looks and I hope she is able to use them as a guide to set up her new wardrobe.
Oh, the things I would buy if I had an indispensable bank account. My site is all about looking fabulous for less and I pride myself on that, besides why pay more when you can get the same look or feel at a more affordable price. But if we can pretend for just a moment that we had a millionaire’s wallet here is what I would buy… SplurgeThis look is pretty easy to pull off you start with a leopard print skirt, a puffed sleeve jacket, peep toe pumps, a statement necklace, cuff bracelet and cocktail ring. Here is what I used in the SPLURGE look: · BCBGMAXAZRIA Leopard Mini Skirt in Camel Combo $158 · Elizabeth and James - Women's Black Ernst Biker Blazer $395 · Badgley Mischka - Elia Peep Toe Pump $204 · Express - BROACH AND CHARM BIB NECKLACE $148 · Citrine by the StonesKill Bill Cuff $165 · Lola Rose Sonia Gold Plated & Semi Precious Stone Cocktail Ring $151.65 However since I don’t have a huge bank account here is how I would get the same look for less… SaveHere is what I used in the SAVE look:
· ASOS Leopard Print Jersey Pencil Skirt $40.44 · Cribbage Cardigan $49.99 · SM Luxe Crown Pump $69.95 · Charm Covered Bib Necklace $12.80 · Chain Link Rhinestone Cuff $24.00 · ASOS Statement Stone Cocktail Ring With Rhinestone Encrusted Claws $20.22 Fall is here and winter is soon approaching, this change in weather can do some harsh things to our skin but especially to our lips. If you are anything like me the cold weather cause your lips to chap and even crack, or split. Conditions like dry air, wind, sun, cold temperatures and even dust can affect our lips. My favorite and must have defender against chapped lips… Carmex! I discovered it a few years back when searching for something better and stronger than a traditional lip-gloss or balm. Get a free sample! I like these particular ones because not only do they moisturize, heel and protect but it also has a smooth application and consistency, In addition that it does not lack luster or shine. The best part is that it does not leave any residue behind after it dries. Basically, it’s a 2 in 1 medication and a gloss! How great is that? It cures dry lips through deep hydration. Best of all it includes spf 15.
They have many different products available that come in cherry, strawberry and mint and some even come with a tint. It is such a great product even my husband uses it. The price ranges depending on the store, the good thing is that it is only going to run you between $1-$4. I never knew make up had an expiration date or a limited shelf life and a colleague had informed me that make up is only good for about six months or so. I did a little research turns out most make up have a 1-year shelf life. Sorry to say I do not and never have followed this rule or guide line. If it wasn’t because my house burned 3yrs ago I would still be using my mom had from the 80s and let me tell you it lasted and looked better than some of my new stuff. After the fire, I restocked my make-up bag and yes, I still have stuff that is 3+ years old. My rule of thumb is if I’m not getting any allergic reaction and it still looks good and isn’t irritating my skin I’m not tossing it out. Nevertheless, I will say this, I do know when it’s time to let make up go and buy new supplies. My mascara was getting dry and clumpy so I went out to my local CVS and of course looked for what was on sale. Turns out Cover Girl Lash Blast Waterproof Mascara - Very Black $6.99: was on sale for a $1 off so I picked it up. Well I must say that I love it! The bristles on the wand are small for optimal coverage and indeed elongate the lashes. My favorite part is that it doesn’t clump and it doesn’t give you raccoon eyes the next morning. I love me some black liquid liner there is something about that black angled line that just makes you look sexy, but am always open to alternatives. On that same make-up outing I came across Wet n Wild Mega Eyes Crème Eyeliner – Black $3.99; it is pretty good, I like it. It is very smooth and definitely long lasting. It was easier to apply on to my BFF but after a little practice, I have it down the self-application. It is not applied like most conventional liquid liners, but does give you the same effect; it is applied with a brush and applies effortlessly. I recommend both of these beauty buys and suggest you go out and give them a try. They are good working products and are cost effective.
You can have a million pieces in your closet, labels and designers of all sorts but if you don’t have that perfect shoe to go with your outfit what good are your clothes? Shoes are an important staple to any look it can either make or break the look. Fall is the perfect time to wear all types of boots and shoes. There are so many options to chosse from that it can become overwhelming. To help you select a few fall footwear essetials I have narrowed it down to 10 must haves for the Fall. Every woman should have these 10 boots/shoes in her closet to go with any possible ensemble she can come up with this FALL… 1.
2. HIGH KNEE BOOT 3. RIDING BOOT 4. SLOUCH BOOT 5. SHOE BOOT 6. SANDAL BOOT 7. LEOPARD PRINT PUMP 8. BASIC BLACK PUMP 9. BLUSH TONE/BEIGE PUMP 10. BASIC BLACK FLAT I wanted to take this time to talk about how important undergarments are to your wardrobe. The right or wrong bra for that matter can make or break your outfit. The correct fit in a bra is essential in helping your look come together and look the way it should. Bras have a variety of purposes, for support, to improve the shape of breasts, to reduce or to enlarge the perceived breast size, to restrain breast movement during an activity such as exercise, to enhance their cleavage or to facilitate nursing. Most bras are designed to be form fitting and to lift the breasts off the chest wall if they sag and to restrain their movement. Bra designers strive to produce a garment that is both functional and aesthetically pleasing. If your boobs are coming out of your bra or are not properly supported a top worn will not fit correctly. Seems will be out of line and distorted. Sometimes too much cleavage can look classless and at times even offensive. I really cannot come up with a reason as to why a woman would prefer or like to wear an ill-fitting bra. Besides looking unpleasant, it is also both very unappealing and uncomfortable. Women who wear under garments that are either too big or too small are simply doing an injustice to themselves and their fashion. My favorite kinds of bra are from of course Victoria's Secret...
I think they are perfect. Perhaps on the higher end of your budget but still, definitely a great investment for your undergarment wardrobe. They have a wonderful fit and lift. They are like an instant breast lift and you can see an improvement right away. They are durable, long lasting and come in many different patterns, colors and prints. Every woman, should have at least three basic colors in her drawer, which are black, beige and white. The other two essential must have bras are a strapless and a racer back, to go with all of your tops and dresses. My little girl is only seven months old; in reality, there is no back to school for here since she is in daycare every day since she was three months old. However if she did have a back to school start date I know exactly how I would dress her up and send her in for her first big day. Flats are great and essential to any women’s wardrobe but bedside be so adorable for children they are just as practical. Flats are quite functional for little girls and can add a little spunk to any outfit. First day of SchoolPaired with a cute pair of rolled up light wash skinny jeans and a fun printed top any little girl would look ready to take on her first day of school be it daycare, preschool or 1st grade.
I added some colorful bows the match some of the colors of the top and add that touch of youthfulness children still need. |
