I did it! After years of back and forth, I finally decided to dust off my blog and bring it back to life. That being said a whole lot has happened since I last posted, the main one being I purchased my first home! A 1200sq foot Foursquare that I'm slowly DIY'ing into my version of a French Country cottage with touches of Transitional and Modern Organic interior design styles. One of the ways I am achieving this Shabby Chic style I'm going for is with lighting.
A few of the featured light fixtures are currently installed in my home and others I cannot wait to incorporate, to add more of that old European vibe into our living spaces. Lighting not only adds an ambiance to a room but they can also be used to define spaces and set the tone for the space.
The bronze details on this flush mount wooden light fixture together with the distressed, chipping paint brings a special charm to my sunroom.
I have a version of this 6 light wooden chandelier light with rust arms over my dining table. Thankfully I was able to buy one second hand via an online auction site and DIY it to give it the look I was going for. It added the perfect touch of French farmhouse.
My main spot for sourcing all items for my home is Facebook Market Place, because second hand, first! I wanted a French faux crystal basket chandelier to hang above my stairs, prices vary great online but after searching Market Place I was able to find a set of matching flush mount crystal basket light with matching chandelier for just 60 dollars. It was about a 40 minute drive to pick it up but totally worth it. After a good cleaning and lots of bronze rub and buff it was the light of my dreams.
I have had this fandelier on my Amazon Wishlist for about two years, I finally was able to purchase it after a friend posted the same one but for half the price from Walmart. My budget was not the only issue, I also had to wait until we could update the electrical in the Livingroom, but as soon as we were ready, I went ahead and purchased it. This chandelier ceiling fan light comes with a remote, has 3 color temperatures and 3 fan speeds. Although modern, with blades that tuck away when not in use, the Tiffany style lamp shade ties in with my Modern Organic French Cottage.
I purchased this vintage looking, distressed wooden pendant chandelier for above my kitchen island, the only issue was that I found the black detailing a bit too stark and Farmhouse so I painted it a shade of beige with my Home Depot $2 oops paint.
One light in particular that I am quite anxious to add is a Nordic pendant light, the beauty in its simplicity excite me for some reason. I have the perfect little vignette to add it to. It will create a cozy yet elegant reading nook vibe, which I feel French Provincial decor is, a mix of opulence and shabby chic.
