As moms we always tend to be behind the camera then end up regretting not having any family photos to share on Mother's day. Family photos are a precious gift and beautiful keepsake, as a Mother's Day gift to myself I took advantage of a mini photo session special with Digna Toledo Photography. This mini session served two purposes. the first was that we haven't had any professional family photos taken in the last two years. The second was that my son was turning 3 and thought a photo shoot would make for nice memories. And third, as I mentioned earlier I just wanted beautiful professional photos of my family as a Mother's Day gift. Who knows I may just start doing this every year! Here's how I got the best Mother's Day photos.... 1. Have a photo session before Mother's DayFrom bad weather to uncooperative children, trying to get the best possible picture with your children on Mother's Day makes for a difficult task. Take your photos before hand, you'll end up with beautiful photos that can be repurposed in a number of ways. You can reschedule for rain or even retake the photos if everyone came out with their eyes closed or for any other mishap. You'll also have time to make sure outfits are just right too. 2. Use a Highly Recommended PhotographerDigna works along Cynthia of CYTB photography, who has worked with many families I know personally. Both of these ladies are local professional natural light photographers that have a specialization with children and families. This is extremely important to me because I want to work with someone who is patient and lovely with my children. Another suggestion is to follow the photographer's social media to stay upto date with the quality of their work. You don't want to expect lemonade and be delivered lemons. 3. Wear Color Coordinated OutfitsSpeaking of outfits, color coordinating outfits create a sense of uniformity while still allowing each child and family member the room to express their own personal style. I find that mixing prints and textures adds more visual appeal to the photos as well. I went with a denim and purple theme and to keep cost low I only used clothing items we already owned. The only thing I purchased was Naliya's tutu which you can get here. I wanted Aarlen to wear distressed jeans so I did it myself to save even more. 4. Have Fun!I tried to make this a fun activity for the whole family. Naliya enjoyed getting to wear lip gloss and a tutu while Aarlen thought his tie was just the coolest. We played in the park a bit after the photos then went out for dinner. Everyone looked and felt good that day. I see these photos and remember us all singing along to a song on the radio. We had a good time trying all the different poses suggested and got to be a little silly with each other too. It was a lovely day!! |
