I introduced the film to the children and Aarlen was hooked, asking to watch Pippi 2-3 times a day. I am not going to lie, as his 3rd birthday approached I encouraged a "Pippi Party" since he had been loving it for the past few months. It took a little convincing be he agreed to a Pippi 3rd birthday party! Here is how I gave my 3 year old son Aarlen a Pippi Pirate 3rd birthday... Pippi Birthday InvitationThe selection for Pippi Longstocking invitations on Etsy was very low and most were pretty basic, I opted to make the birthday invitation myself using Canva.com. Pippi Longstocking Party Food &DessertI knew that I did not want to cook, that was my first guide on building the menu for the Pippi Party. Although in the movie they do sit down for dinner I couldn't make out what they had. Other than pancakes I was unable to draw inspiration for food based on the film. I opted for finger foods, here is what we had;
Pippi Longstocking Cake with Alfonso + Mr. NeilsonAs with most of my birthday's I picked up a store bought cake, this one is from Shoprite. It was a pretty good score considering the colors and decor. I bought a spotted horse figurine to represent Alfonso and a squirrel monkey figurine to represent Mr. Neilson. As much as I tried I was unable to find a Pippi Longstocking doll. I used bakers string, two paper straws and some stock paper to make a clothes line with Pippi's stockings. I wish I would have gotten a close up of the stockings, I was proud of how they turned out. Ice Cream Bar and DrinksThe ice cream fight scene is a big part of the movie, I thought it would be fun to highlight it by having an ice cream bar. I had seen on Pinterest a cupcake bar and used a similar format. Using condiment ramekins from the dollar store and paint palettes from the craft store, kids were able to pick their toppings to poor atop their ice cream. I bought Hawaiian punch since it was on sale and poured it into the drink dispenser. We also had mini water bottles to drink. Pippi Longstocking Party DecorI quickly learned that Pippi party decor is nearly nonexistent, particularly here in the US. I was able to find a few items but way out of my budget and located in Sweden, not quite helpful. Because of this I stuck with a color scheme of black, red, orange, yellow and blue and went with more of a Pippi Pirate theme. I purchased everything mostly from Amazon and the dollar store. On Pinterest, I managed to find an Etsy seller with a Pippi Longstocking party pack, her shop was closed so I had to hunt her down and stalk her on social media until she sold me the party pack. You can reach out via WorldWideMom.com for pippi decor, she has a beautiful blog and shop. My party pack included water bottle labels, pennant banner, a happy birthday banner, thank you tags, napkin rings, party hat and cupcake toppers. I printed everything at FedEx Kinkos and used my scrapbooking paper trimmer to cut everything. I ordered up a orange and white chevron polka dot party supply pack which included cups, plates and napkins from Amazon. To play up that Pippi is a pirate I ordered pirate hat and eye patches, gold coins, pirate telescopes, pirate tattoos and a pirate photo prop set. I also ordered from Amazon a red striped tablecloth and a chevron polka dot table cover. A pin the eye patch on the pirate, served as both a party game and decor. Since pirate ships have banners and flags I used a multicolor pennant banner by Fun Express to decorate the living room. For more of the the black, red, yellow color scheme and to keep with the polka dot and chevron prints I ordered Polka Dot and Striped Paper Straws. I set up two kids table and chair sets with dollar store table covers for the children, I liked the idea of having toddler sized seating. A few other details included personalized confetti and horse straw toppers from my pal, Lee over at The LVR Shop. Since there aren't many Pippi party decorations out there I printed images off the web and put them in dollar store frames. More Photos! |
