Do you feel as though you're stuck in a fashion rut? Are you tired of wearing the same old jeans, flip flops and t-shirts every day? Well then, instead of reaching for your usual wardrobe staples, try mixing up your clothing to include some vintage flair. What Are Vintage Clothes? According to the Americana Blog, vintage clothing is defined as "previously-owned clothing, that with age, looks better and maintains style." This definition hits on some of the most important points of vintage pieces. These clothes are from a past era, but they are still stylish. However, not all vintage clothing has to have been previously owned. Manufacturers realize that vintage clothing is a craze right now, and they willingly make items that were once popular in the past. As the old saying goes: "Everything old is new again." Examples of Vintage Clothes Many of today's popular vintage styles come from the 1940's through the 1980's. Therefore, with four decades worth of clothing, there are clearly a lot of different pieces that fall into that category. Some items have become so popular that people actually think of them as modern instead of vintage. Consider the huge popularity of bell bottom and flared leg jeans. So many people wear these nowadays, but these were actually very popular hippie styles back in the 1960s. Speaking of hippies, the hippie style is definitely popular. People adorn low flowy skirts with floral prints on them, loose blouses and headbands to channel the vibes of this peaceful era. Heading back about 20 years before the hippie movement, sleeved knee length dresses with waist accentuating middles from the 40s are also back in style. Many young girls are choosing to adorn themselves in the frou-frou dresses of the 80s when they head out to their sweet 16 or prom night. Men are no exception to the vintage craze, as flared leg jeans are becoming more and more acceptable when worn by this gender. Additionally, who can forget the days of acid wash jeans? Rockers across the nation are thanking the rock and roll kings of the past for these stylish creations. Men who want a more subtle vintage look are able to do so. With ties sold in prints from the decades of the past, men can bring their love for vintage clothing into even the most formal of occasions. Vintage Accessories Young folks today might not realize that the Chuck Taylor's on their feet are hugely representative of an era long gone. For some reason, many people seem to think that these shoes were huge in the 80s. Indeed, that might be true. However, they were actually invented in 1917 and experienced a huge surge of popularity in the 20s, 30s and so forth. Chuck Taylors, also known as Chucks and Converse All Stars, have been a legend that is going on one hundred years in the making. From casual to formal, vintage footwear is leaving its print on the nation. Oxfords give both men and women the style that they need in serious situations, and ballet flats have a huge present in the closets of many women who do not wish to wear heels. Even retro hairstyles are making their way back into the scene. Scope out the runways and the local hangouts and you'll see the long, flowy locks of the 70s, the sculpted dos that channel Marilyn Monroe and the big, poufy hair of the 80s. Vintage and Celebrities That's right: you should check out the runway when you want to see some vintage styles. Celebrities are really picking up on this trend. Some of the celebrities who are most known for their vintage styles include Dita Von Tease, Julia Roberts, Drew Barrymore and Natalie Portman. Whether you're a celebrity known throughout the world or just a plan old Jane, the vintage style is here to stay, and you can be part of that movement. |
