A little late but still blog worthy! My dad turned 60 in 2015, I took all of his favorite things and turned them into his 60th birthday party theme. I went with a black and gold color scheme to tie it all together. Here is what I came up for pop's celebration.... DecorFor the decor I wanted to incorporate everything that my dad likes, which included wood elements - for his love of woodworking, domino's, baseball, nuts and beer. On its own all those items do not really make up a theme but my sticking to a color scheme it all worked. I already had burlap from my Little Cowboy: My Western Themed Baby Shower and from Aarlen's First Birthday: Woody's Round Up Western Party. I picked up many of the wood decor and chalk boards from AC Moore. I stopped at a Dollar Tree for dominoes and baseballs, as well as party paper goods. From Party City I picked up the ceiling decor and gold numbered balloons. DrinksMy dad enjoys a good drink or two so I was sure to have some alcoholic beverages along with water, lemonade, iced tea and mini Corona's. I used scrapbook paper and a chalk pen to "customize" the water bottle labels. A small .99cent chalkboard made for a cute decorative sign. SnacksWhile at the dollar tree I picked up snacks like candy, chocolate, cookies and nuts. We had a Dominican cake, custard tarts, and eclairs. There were also crackers, chocolate covered almonds, pretzels and trail mix. All of my dad's favorite snacks. DessertsFooodMy dad's little sister came over from Queens to make her famous chivo or was it rabo? I am not sure but in either case both her oxtail and goat are amazing! The dish is usually accompanied by rice and beans but she also made a delicious garden salad and oysters. The oysters were basically the hit of the night! That was my daddy's 60th surprise celebration, let me know which part was your favorite. |
