Lately, the weather here in New Jersey has been pleasantly warm for fall. I thought it would be a great idea to take advantage of these warm days to host a family movie night in the backyard. Nothing says movie time like some Orville Redenbacher’s butter popcorn; naturally, that was the first thing on my list. You will also need a few more essentials your fall backyard movie night!

Orville Redenbacher’s Popcorn Bowls: These are convenient and great for easy cleanup. Everyone can get their own in their preferred flavor.
White Sheet: This will be your backdrop or screen. Any light-colored, print-free sheet is suitable.
Backdrop Clamps: You need these to hold up the sheet; I clamped mine right to the fence.
Icicle Lights: These will be to add a little ambiance to the yard and create a movie theater–like atmosphere.
Projector: This Mobile Projector is stylish and compact, and is compatible with iPhone, iPod, iPad, iPad 2, laptops, and gaming devices.
Lounge Pillows or Chairs: I found these inflatable lounge pillows online. At only $14.99, they are a steal and are super cute as well as practical.
Candles: The candles will serve a few purposes: a source of light and slight warmth, and, if a citronella candle is used, it can repel bugs as well.
Blanket: When the temperature takes a little dip, these throw blankets will be great to keep cozy with.

My favorite parts of going to the movies are the snacks. I set up a snack table with a variety of refreshments; you can pick up some boxed candy from our local dollar store. A little tablescaping can help transform the area. Play with different heights, colors, and textures to create an eye-catching snack table.

Some great drink suggestions would be apple cider and even hot chocolate if it gets breezy out. Keep your budget to a minimum by purchasing the items needed a few at a time weeks before your movie night. The good part is, once you make the investment you get to reuse all your supplies for your next backyard movie night. Don’t forget to include the kids in the prep and take plenty of pictures!
