I can't believe I am here yet again, once more another hair journey. Let me tell you a little bit about what happened this time around...
You can read about natural hair journey number one, here and you can read about my first big chop experience, here. My second hair journey flew by since I was pregnant for a good portion of it, I also believed that aided in the growth. After about two years I thought it would be nice to get a little trim but with a shape. I went to Bangz Salon and Spa for a DevaCut. Although the haircut looked great, unfortunately I lost more length than I would have liked you can check out that cut out here.
About six months or so after having my son I began to experience postpartum fall out, unlike with my daughter where it was only around my edges, this time it was my whole head. My hair also became very thin at the ends, add in heat damage and I was left with hair I no longer recognized. I attempted to nurse it back to health and even went for another Devacut but that worked to no avail, you can check out that cut here.
I then began visiting my hairstylist friend Hazel of Hair by Hazel Alexandra, she gave me a beautiful cut and clip in extensions. I was over my curls and thought this would be a nice protective style, unfortunately it only caused more heat damage since my hair is so fine. I will be getting that hair style again soon but this time as a full sew-in.
I found Ona via Miss Rizos and what I loved about her after having watched a few of her cuts and sitting through a consult, was that she evaluates your curl and then decides which technique to use. Unlike the Devacuts her method is not a one cut fits all curls. I almost always feel that no matter who cuts my hair they always cut more than what I wanted but since I had heat damage I knew a lot had to go. She works at 5 Salon Spa here in Fort Lee, NJ. She is a curly hair guru and a self proclaimed hair saint. I think her hands really are blessed because I cut my hair a month ago and i feel like it is really growing at a nice pace.
Ona also cut my Nali bear's hair. Apart from the occasional dusting I gave her when I would blow out her hair once or twice a year, Naliya has never gotten a real haircut. Ona gave her, her first real haircut. She did lose some length but not too much and ended up with a really nice shape.
