Hair Porosity 101: Shea Moisture High + Low Porosity Collection Review + Giveaway

Porosity refers to how well your hair absorbs and holds moisture.

• Low Porosity: Hair cuticles lay flat and tight around the cortex, resisting moisture and conditioning oils. Product builds up easily, making protein-sensitive hair feel dry and brittle. Shea Moisture's low porosity collection combats moisture resistant hair.

Hair Porosity Test

• Fill a glass or a small bowl with warm water. 
• Place a strand of hair in water (you can use one from a comb or brush so you aren't pulling out your hair)

I tried the High Porosity - Mongongo Hemp Seed Oils collection before finding out what hair porosity type I was which in hindsight was a mistake because because I actually have low porosity. So using the high porosity line left my hair puffy, frizzy and with little definition. You do not want to do this, please make sure you do the test to find out what porosity type your hair is.

After my high/low porosity mix up I used the LOW POROSITY - BAOBAB TEA TREE OILS Collection along with Kinky-Curly Curling Custard to do my wash and go. After a few washes with the collection my hair is back to its normal state and looks better than ever. I wonder if they will add a deep conditioner to the line, overall I think it's great that they have released dedicated porosity collections.  It is great for those who aren't sure which products they should use or avoid.
