Disclosure: Today's post is sponsored by Balmex, however all opinions expressed are my own.
A couple of months after baby Nerina was born she developed the worst rash, I am not sure if it was change brands of diaper or what but it was baaad! I literally tried everything and only two things seemed to work for her after many weeks of trial and error.
I tried ointments with petroleum jelly, creams with lanolin, DIY remedies and holistic approaches. Nothing seemed to be working, that is until I tried Balmex! Balmex is a diaper rash cream that has been recommended by pediatricians, and trusted by parents for more than 65 years!
1. CHANGE DIAPERS OFTEN
To make sure we healed the baby's rash as quickly as possible I changed her diaper about every 30 minutes or so. I did this to ensure that she wasn't sitting in a damp diaper which would further aggravate her rash. It may seem costly but, happy baby, happy mom. I rather buy an extra pack of diapers than have my 'lil one in pain and discomfort.
2. USE A DIAPER CREAM WITH ZINC OXIDE
Using a diaper cream such as Balmex's advanced formula protects against the leading causes of diaper rashes--irritation from stool and urine, friction and prolonged exposure to wetness, to name a few. Using just one application of Balmex can reduce a rash in just one diaper change!
3. ASK A DOCTOR ABOUT YEAST INFECTIONS
Did you know once that top layer of the baby's skin is irritated, it is now prone to developing a yeast infection? I had no clue until Nerina. After a week, even after having improved greatly with the Balmex diaper rash cream, the rash crept up again.
At that time I consulted with her pediatrician, and was told that although I was doing a great job to heal and prevent, there was a bit of yeast that developed in the warm moist area diapers create. By direction of her physician I purchased an over the counter yeast infection cream and applied before the Balmex. This may not always be the case but if after changing baby's diaper often and using a diaper cream there is still no improvement seeing a pediatrician is best.
By the way how awesome is this super cute diaper bag I was gifted by Ryco, it’s their Monique series. The bag is durable yet fashionable, and perfect for both mom and dad. Designed and developed in Austria, Ryco nursery bags are made of durable lightweight materials for functionality. It features easy access main compartment, a new internal removal bottle holder, hygienic pacifier pocket and a built in changing mat.
