How to Get Dascha Polanco of OITNB Emmy Hair + Makeup

I am a big supporter of Dominican women so I was happy to see Dascha however I find that this sweet heart neckline was a no go for her. Although th corset top was figure flattering, she needed a bit more coverage. All in all she looked beautiful.

Inspiration: Dascha is the true definition of a beautiful feminine and sexy woman. This was the perfect opportunity to let her be ethereal,  whimsical and a true goddess.

Skin: 

• as an artist, my skin is always the show stopper. To achieve this luminous and creamy canvas I prepped Dascha's  skin with Shea Moisture Spray Toner. 
• Then applied Shea Moisture Primer using a foundation brush, it's important to massage the primer into the skin and pores so the foundation lays like butter. 
• Then, I applied her color of sheer liquid foundation Yasuni Honey by Shea Moisture with a damp sponge (stippling the product ever so gently building a nice and even canvas). Her concealer Snowdonia Fawn by Shea Moisture was swept under the eyes with my ring finger. I needed to create more shape, so I used the darkest shade in the Shea Moisture Medium Light Color Correcting Contouring and Highlighting Palette, and sculpted the hairline cheek bones and jaw area with a damp sponge and blended. 
• Using another foundation brush, I lightly whisped  the lighter shade in her t-zone to bring out more highlights in her skin. 
• Everything was then set with Shea Moisture Yala Golden Pressed Powder. The powder color is a very warm and sunny color that works well with this look and feel. 
• The final effect for the skin was the glow. Illuminating powder in Cinnamon Ceylon was worked into the t-zone for warmth and glow with a huge kabuki brush, and mandalay dusk illuminating powder was used as a bone chiseling contour on the temples, cheekbones, jawline and neck (for continuity). 
• A final pop of Shea Moisture Annecy Maroon Mineral Blush was applied to the apples of the cheeks for whimsical fun and to complete the storyline.
  

Eyes: 

• the eyes had to go along with the story, but they also had to have a presence of their own. A light dab of her foundation was swept all over with a concealer brush to prime the lid, and Shea Moisture Cecilia Eyeshadow was dusted all over to set the canvas and to add as highlight under the brow bone. 
• A mix of Deysi Eyeshadow with Cecila (for a pastel effect) was dabbed on the lid with a damp shadow brush for pigment intensity. 
• Shea Moisture Black Liquid Liner was added corner to corner with four - yes four coats of Shea Moisture Volumizing Mascara, mixed with Lengthening Mascara on the lashes.
  

Lips: 

• for the luscious jewel toned lip I got to exfoliate, moisturize and prime the lips in one step with Shea Moisture Lip Exfoliator. I blotted excess moisture off with a tissue.
• applied Shea Moisture Roberta Chubby Lip Crayon all over as the lipstick, blotted again and re-applied. 
• The final touch was a generous layer of Shea Moisture Rosie Lipgloss.

For Dascha's Emmy Award hair, we decided to go for an inverted bob with retro waves. She normally wears longer tresses but we wanted to do something different, showing her decollete. The shoulder length hair was the perfect complement to the dress and the softness of the curls framed her face beautifully.

Using the right shampoo and conditioner is the foundation to great style. I prepped Dascha's hair with TIGI S Factor Smoothing Shampoo & Conditioner, and then applied Ojon Rare Blend oil to the ends of her hair. Using an oil while the hair is wet seals and protects the ends of the hair. Using a Paul Mitchell Paddle Brush and Gold 'n Hot Professional Titanium Blow Dryer, I blow dried the hair, lifting at the root.

Once the hair was completely dry, I divided her hair into 3 sections – section 1 ear to ear and clip front 2 sections forward. After I sectioned off the hair, I worked with 1-inch sections from the back at the crown, spraying with Motions Light hold Working Spritz, and curling back sections using 1-inch Gold 'n Hot Rose Gold Curling Iron... Holding for 20 seconds, then pinning with a clip. I continued down the back section using a brick lay pattern (alternating the curl placement).

Once the back section was completed, I repeated the process on each front section, working from the top, parallel to the part, and spray the Motions Light Working Spritz  again to set the hair while curling.

After letting the curls cool for a few minutes, I removed the clips and brushed and stretched the curls starting at the nape using a teasing Brush. I then set the front waves by securing three clips where I desired to place them and set with Motions Hold & Shine hair spray all over.

I left the clips in until right before she left the hotel to ensure that the curls had optimal time to set. When it was time to depart, the clips were removed and the hair brushed out slightly for volume and smoothness. A tiny amount of Motions Shine Enhancing Pomade was used on the edges of the hair and entire head to catch any fly-a-ways, and pieces. A few sprays of TIGI Maxxed Out Massive Hold Hairspray was all that was needed to complete the look. (Only a few sprays as the product is needed!) The hair is set and held into place for hours! Dascha was ready to hit the carpet and showcase her beauty all night!
