This year I plan on enjoying Summer to the fullest with my friends and family. We kicked off our Summer activities with by experiencing our first Food Truck Festival in Monmouth Park, NJ last month, this will be the first of many family outings. Over three dozen of the areas best food trucks converged on Monmouth Park for three days of amazing food and family fun. Speaking of fun, the whole experience was supposed to be but between the huge crowd of people - mostly complaining, the blazing sun and crazy long line and wait times the whole thing was not much fun at all. We did enjoy ourselves, well because that is what my friends and I do - make the best of every situation. We ended up having brisket with a side of rice and beans. Cold. Hard. Rice and beans. I left my husband in the line and went to another to order lemonades. That line was moving pretty fast but the lemonades were pretty bland. The only thing I truely enjoyed were the fried Oreos and zeppoles. Yes, I had both. #foreverfat So Goood! We decided to divide and conquer since the lines were so disgustingly long. My husband and I waited in line for Mobile Mardi Gras Food Truck for shrimp po-boys after what I think was almost 2 hours we were informed their pilot was out and were no longer able to serve shrimp since they couldn't fry it. They seemed like a super sweet family but they did not update customers even after we had paid, they were slow and unorganized. Although the fish and shrimp were not able to be served they could have advanced with rice or gumbo but did not do that until the line become frustrated and began asking questions. My brother and sister(in-law) headed for a Philly cheese steak stand, their wait was as long as our and the stand didn't even offer fries or drinks. Needless to say my 6'4" 2**lb brother was not happy with the whole line waiting and subpar food. Oh yeah, and it was pretty pricey too! My friend Tiffany waited at another truck for ribs, she was not impressed. We laughed, made jokes, people watched. Over all it was a cool experience but I would much rather visit a food truck I am interested in individually versus at a food truck festival. It look much cooler on Foodnetwork. |
