This is a compensated campaign in collaboration with NEUTROGENA and Latina Bloggers Connect, however all opinions  expressed are my own.
Chica Fashion: Sun Up, Sun Down: Busting Sun Care Myths with Neutrogena
We have all heard of how harmful too much exposure to the sun can be on our skin but did you know that our bodies can also benefit from the sun. Today Neutrogena kicks off their Sun up, Sun down social media movement using the Hashtag #ChooseSkinHealth a national initiative to communicate the importance of sun protection for the whole family.
I will be clearing up a few myths about sun care that I have fallen for and
maybe you have as well. I will also share some facts I have learned along the
way.

Even today there are still many misconceptions and myths about sun care and this movement is all about education and awareness, to encourage everyone in the family to take an active role in taking care of their skin.

Myths

  • If you are of darker skin tone you do not need to use SPF
I was always under the impression that I simply tan not burn and boy was I wrong I have gotten sun burned even while using an SPF. Being of darker skin tone doesn't make me any less susceptible to sun burn let alone cancer. We still need protection from the sun
  • If you are in the water/shade you don't need to use SPF
I was wrong again! I thought being in the pool or ocean kept me safe. What I quickly learned is that the resplendence of the sun penetrates and is actually magnified in the water.
  • They are just freckles
  • Many people do have freckles and birthmarks but these are also signs of excessive sun exposure and even early signs of cancer. I skin often speaks to use so pay close attention to the signs. Over exposure also causes dark spots, age spots and wrinkles.

    Benefits of the Sun

    • Produces vitamin D
  • When the rays of the sun come across the skin, most of the energy of these rays is converted into useful energy. It assists in stimulating vitamin D production, which is important for proper function and also bone health.
    • Enhances moods
The sun offers an essential benefit of enhancing our moods. The UV Rays produce a chemical reaction in our brains which can brighten our mood thus our day. Sun can help a stressful day  by enjoying the sun it helps the body to relieve some tension.
    • Improves Skin
  • Moderate and controlled exposure to the sun can help treat certain skin conditions like psoriasis, eczema and acne. The sun's rays and vitamins can even skin tone and improve skin conditions.

Using Neutrogena's suncare line you can have the added protectin needed while still benefiting from the sun. We practically live in the water so I am most excited about  Neutrogena® Wet Skin Sunscreen –a revolutionary line of sunscreens that are specifically designed to adhere to and protect wet skin, dampened by swimming, sweating or humid weather. Now available in a lotion formula, the new Neutrogena® Wet Skin Lotion SPF 45, joins a trio of sprays – all proven to provide the same hypoallergenic, PABA-free, oil-free, water-resistant protection.

Neutrogena® Wet Skin Sunscreen instantly cuts through water to form a superior broad spectrum protective barrier and HELIOPLEX® to provide UVA and UVB protection. Allowing users to easily and conveniently apply and reapply their sunscreen, the Neutrogena® Wet Skin Sunscreen line provides full strength protection under wet or dry conditions, for your best skin protection.
