The Wilshire Grand Hotel has opened their doors to the victims of Hurricane Sandy who lost their homes from the devastating storm that hit New Jersey on October 29th, 2012. The Wilshire Grand Hotel is accepting room and product donations to help the unfortunate families who were locally displaced from the horrific storm that left 106 dead and millions without power. Paying it forward, this act of goodwill began when a customer who was supposed to be in New Jersey on October 29th for a wedding called to cancel his room reservation. One of Hotel Management Magazine’s “25 GMS to Watch”, Ed Reagoso waived the usually demanding cancellation fee set forward due to the weather. “When I explained we were not charging for the cancellation because we were delighted to have a room become available for a local family that’s been displaced due to Sandy, the customer requested we keep his room reservation for someone in the area that really needed it” explains Ed Reagoso. “Within the next 48 hours, three other guests and business partners of the hotel offered to do the exact same thing.”
The Wilshire Grand Hotel offered to match all donations and room reservations that were donated to the hotel for the victims of Hurricane Sandy. Word quickly spread through The Wilshire Grand Hotel’s blog and social media pages and within three days, the hotel received money donations, Starbucks gift cards, toiletries, and non-perishable goods for neighbors in need. “I remain no less than amazed at the resilience and empathy of our brothers and sisters nationwide to help take care of our own. I will continue to assist our displaced neighbors and friends. I won’t whine because I have no power at home yet. I will simply be grateful and feel blessed that I live in such a great country that when the rubber hits the road, we’re not republican, independents, or democrats. We’re Americans and we share the same desire to take care of each other & rebuild at times of crisis such as this” states Ed Reagoso. The Wilshire Grand Hotel is currently housing eight families in the West Orange, NJ hotel that lost their homes from Hurricane Sandy and has set up a relief for families that are still without power. |
